Anti-Slip Treatment for Marble Floors: Preserve Beauty, Prevent Falls | Oxon Technology

Marble Floors: Beautiful but Dangerously Slippery

Marble is one of India’s most beloved flooring materials. From temples and palaces to luxury homes and five-star hotels, marble floors symbolise elegance and prestige. But marble’s highly polished, smooth surface creates one of the most treacherous walking surfaces – especially when wet. Anti-slip treatment for marble floors solves this problem permanently without altering the marble’s natural beauty.

Why Marble Gets So Slippery

Marble is a crystalline rock that polishes to an extremely smooth finish. The higher the polish (measured in gloss units), the more slippery the surface. When water, oil, or cleaning products are present, the coefficient of friction on polished marble can drop to as low as 0.15 – far below the safe threshold of 0.5. This is like walking on ice.

Our Marble-Specific Anti-Slip Treatment

Oxon Technology has developed a specialised anti-slip formulation for marble that:

  • Preserves the natural gloss: The treatment works at sub-microscopic level, invisible to the naked eye
  • Does not affect colour: No yellowing, whitening, or staining of the marble
  • Increases slip resistance by 3-5x: Achieves safe COF levels of 0.5 to 0.7
  • Works on all marble types: Italian marble, Indian marble (Makrana, Udaipur), onyx, and travertine

Where Do We Apply Marble Anti-Slip Treatment?

Luxury Home Marble Floors

Premium Indian homes with Carrara or Italian marble flooring. We protect your investment while making your home safer for elderly family members and young children.

Hotel Lobbies and Banquet Halls

Five-star hotels across India use marble in lobbies, ballrooms, and function areas. Our treatment protects guests and hotel staff while maintaining the prestigious appearance that marble provides.

Temple and Religious Premises

Many Indian temples have marble floors that become extremely slippery when wet from water offerings, bare feet, and cleaning. We provide anti-slip treatment that is suitable for religious environments.

Office Reception Areas

Corporate offices with marble reception areas create a liability risk if visitors slip. Our treatment provides professional protection.

The Treatment Process for Marble

  1. Marble Type Assessment: Not all marbles are identical. We test the specific porosity and hardness of your marble before selecting the right formulation.
  2. Crystallisation Removal: Any existing crystallisation treatment is removed as it can interfere with anti-slip penetration.
  3. Controlled Application: The treatment is applied in controlled conditions for precise penetration depth.
  4. Neutralisation and Polish: The surface is neutralised, rinsed, and buffed to restore the original shine.
  5. COF Testing: We measure and certify the final slip resistance level.

Maintaining Marble After Anti-Slip Treatment

Anti-slip treated marble can be maintained with any standard marble cleaning product. We recommend pH-neutral marble cleaners to maximise the life of the treatment. Avoid using acidic cleaners (lemon, vinegar) which can etch the marble surface.

Cost of Marble Anti-Slip Treatment in India

Marble anti-slip treatment starts from ₹80 to ₹120 per square foot, depending on marble type, current condition, and accessibility. For hotel and commercial projects, we offer volume pricing. Contact us for a site-specific quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the treatment work on crystallised/polished marble?

Yes, but we first need to remove any crystallisation coating which seals the marble surface. We include this as part of our preparation process.

Does the treatment affect the reflection in mirror-polished marble?

The treatment operates at sub-micron level and does not visibly affect the mirror polish of high-gloss marble. Your marble will look exactly the same.

Can the treatment be reversed if we want to re-polish the marble?

The treatment is permanent but marble can be crystallised over it for extra shine. Standard marble re-polishing will gradually reduce the anti-slip effect, at which point re-treatment is recommended.
